Is becoming a volunter as great as I've heard?
People seem to think so. Not only are you the heartbeat and lifeblood of the Kidney March throughout the year, but it's a lot of fun, too. You get to meet some really terrific, inspiring people — people who, like yourself, want to give a hand and end up giving (and receiving!) so much more. A lot of volunteers make lifelong friendships throughout the year. Whether you'd like to lead a training walk, help out in the office, or even contribute new ideas, the Kidney March needs you!
Okay, okay. Now what can I do for you ?
- Well, where do we start? Here's a list of volunteer teams that need you, and what they need you to do.
- Office Team: Join the evening team or the daytime team. Help with data entry, preparing mailings, and making phone calls to walkers and prospective walkers. For those who have a little more time to spare (or can make a little more time), we have office projects and ongoing volunteer positions available.
- Outreach: Join the outreach team and use your enthusiasm to attract walkers, crew members and other volunteers to the Kidney March. You may attend local events, visit area businesses and interact with the public to distribute and disseminate information about the Kidney March. Assist our recruitment team with walker orientations in the evenings and on weekends.
- Training Club: Join the Training Walk Leaders. Organize walks and educate new walkers on safety and rules of the road.
- Route Support: Contact individuals and groups in the communities along the route to organize special activities and support for walkers on the Kidney March.
- Public Speaking: Join our Speakers Bureau! Give presentations about the Kidney March at houseparties, to employee groups, civic groups and other venues for walker, crew and volunteer recruitment as well as fundraising and sponsorship.
- Walker and Crew Relations: Take charge and work with our Walker Services Manager and Crew Coordinator to organize walker expo's, crew orientations, and other special activities to support our walkers and crew during the year.
- Day Zero, Opening & Closing Ceremonies: Start us off and/or welcome us home. Volunteer for Day Zero —Kidney March registration day (Thursday, September 8th, 2011) — and help register participants, direct traffic, or process pledges. For Opening Ceremonies (Friday, September 9th, 2011), we need volunteers for security, traffic control, and clean-up. Or help us out at our Closing Ceremonies (Sunday, September 11, 2011) by setting-up, providing security and traffic control, and breaking down. These powerful ceremonies cannot happen without your support. Call your Volunteer Coordinator today to find out more!
